Day 8: El Calafate - Parque Nacional Los Glaciares

We awoke super early this morning. After a quick breakfast and a final touch on blog's post, we left for Puerto Bandera to board on a boat for a daytrip on the Lago Argentino.

From the boat, we could see the icebergs and glaciers much closer. The sight was amazing: The glaciers end in the lake where the icebergs float!!

The Glaciar Upsala is the first one we see. It's massive and impressive. It starts at 2500 meters to end up in the Lago Argentino.

The second glacier that we visited is Glaciar Spegazzini and we could see really well that the glacier was flowing in the lake. It is also the tallest glacier in the area: 135 meters high.

Between the visit of two glaciers, we were sleeping like babies trying to recover our energy before some long trip in the next few days. Mijail and Isabel slept very well!

We finished our boat trip by getting close to the Glaciar Perito Moreno. It is another impressive glacier (30km long, 5 km wide and 60m high) where you can see the ice crashing into the lake. The glacier creeps forward up to 2m per day causing building-sized icebergs to calve from its face.

We went back to the hotel to enjoy some free time for ourselves then went for an early dinner at La Tablita: lomo for Isabel, cordero (lamb) for Hadrien, bife chorizo for Miji. Then dessert: apple tart for Hadrien, chocolate mousse for Isabel and cordero for Mijail!

Look at Miji's amazing transformation: before bife, after bife and after cordero!
